When words run out, music can still speak. The deep, sustained sound of the Highland bagpipe offers something few other instruments can: presence, stillness, and a sense of weight.
When and where I play during a funeral
- Arrival at the church, crematorium or cemetery — playing as mourners enter.
- During the service — one or two tunes at moments chosen by the family.
- The procession — leading the coffin in or out.
- At the graveside — Amazing Grace is the traditional choice; many families also request Highland Cathedral, The Water is Wide or The Rowan Tree.
Short notice — usually no problem
Funerals rarely give you time. If I'm available, I can be on site within 24–48 hours. Call or WhatsApp directly — I'll tell you straight away whether I can be there.
Working with your funeral director
I'm used to working alongside funeral directors, celebrants and church staff in the Netherlands and Belgium. I'll coordinate timing, position and music choices with whoever is leading the service — you don't have to be the go-between.
Quiet, respectful, prepared
I arrive early in the attire agreed beforehand for the selected package — ceremonies usually go for traditional kilt with D-Dress jacket — tuned and ready. I stay out of the way until it's time to play. After the service I leave quietly. No fuss, no spotlight — the day is not about me.
Pricing
Funeral package from €225 incl. VAT for one or two tunes at the service. Longer attendance available. Travel & time fee: €1 per minute round-trip travel time from Hedel.
